wabe[]ost
wabe[]ost is a digital media installation that experiments with various forms of communication of memory and narrated history. Contemporary witnesses were interviewed about their life in the GDR for this installation. Vocalized by actors and actresses these narratives were implanted into the bodies of computer-generated avatars. These avatars paint a fragmentary and broad picture of identity through their collectiveness. Their narration of worries, feelings of happiness and everyday life show a society which presence is questioned just as much as its past.

Accompanying program in cooperation with the Ost-West-AG:
The East-West-AG is an NGO which was founded in 2021. It is interested in connections or the reasons for the lack of connections between East and West. It shows mainly works of female directors and artists and meets in East and West – at best in the provinces. The major theme of the AG is “inheritance” and the question of which socially inherited traditions may or even must be rejected and which should be continued and adapted.
wabe []ost invited the Ost-West-AG for a side-program. The AG appears with the theme ”folksy feelings” and invites to two occasions:
16.03.2023, 4-7 pm
local dancing: the local initiative local dancing invites visitors to dance local dances, accompanied by live keyboard. The dances of the initiative include the Leg Swing Dance, the Exquisite Dance, the 5-5-5-5-5 Dance, the Summertime Sadness Dance, the Skeleton Dance, the Bird Dance and the Lazy Dance.
Using queer transmission and speculative instant tradition as methods, local dancing imagines popular group dances that may have travelled through time and now become non-binary and unpaired. Detached from a national narrative, the dances pretend to be local wherever they are.
17.3.2023, 7 pm
music and Frankfurt Grüne Soße: visitors are invited to bring music on LP, CD, USB or phone, to eat together and to exchange some dance moves. We invite you to a dinner, with hot food and wine, and to an exchange about peculiarities, dances and rites you have taken from home and which may be completely unknown to the other guests. For this purpose, visitors are asked to bring personal heirlooms – this can be music on any media or sung or danced.
For reservations please send an e-mail with the subject “I am coming” at ostwestag@gmail.com!
