Miran Yang is interested in the tragedy and ambivalence of the living and the lifeless, life and death. Her interest in the melancholic realms of the human psyche is fabulously represented in her works through the motif of nature. Moon, clouds, wind, flowers, rainbows, castles and ghosts inhabit the fictionalised worlds that seem alive on canvas. ‘Big Sleep’ is the title of a novel by the writer Raymond Chandler and a metaphor for death, the sleep from which one cannot awaken. The contemplation and imagination of the relationship between the moon, sleep, dreams and death is expressed by Miran Yang in the exhibition ‘Big Sleep’ through canvases and video works.

The artist Miran Yang, born in Seoul/South Korea, is a scholarship holder of the studio scholarship ‘come as you are’ of DENTONS Europe LLP and ATELIERFRANKFURT in cooperation with the state academy of fine arts – the Städelschule. The studio scholarship is intended to contribute to young, aspiring artists staying in Frankfurt after their studies.
